The new features of the Apple iOS 8 update, according to developers who've worked with the beta build.
The Apple iOS 8 update is barely a week away from launch, with the much-hyped iPhone 6 on its tracks. While the iPhone 6 is pretty much shrouded in secrets, the accompanying iOS 8 came out with a beta version, available for developers and users alike.
The beta for the new iOS 8 is buggy as expected, but with enough time cracking the build, developers now have a clearer idea on what the new OS will offer, with features that are all but confirmed.
USA Today reports on the expected features for the iOS 8, some as hyped as the new iPhone's Sapphire crystal screen. Developers who've been using the early build of the iOS 8 confirm a few features in store for users upon release.
Users can add audio and video to text messages on iMessage, for starters. The Apple iOS 8 also enables users to use an app within an app, extensions which make different apps compatible and usable.
iCloud is under heavy controversy in recent days, but the new iOS 8 still considers cloud storage an important feature. In addition to a variety of editing tools on the iPhone, all iOS photos now have a back up to iCloud in the background.
Animoto CEO Brad Jefferson confirms "Apple is finally realizing that it's important to possess all of a person's digital photo and video files. I was also intrigued to hear that they will make all photo and video clip files available via the Web so I no longer need to be on an Apple device to see and download them."
Other features expected of the Apple iOS 8 update include the now-familiar Healthkit, an expandable keyboard similar to autocorrect, family sharing of content, and a continuity feature which allows iPhone users to finish ongoing calls on their Macintosh computers (source: usatoday.com).
