Ebola outbreak news today; CDC Director says "Ebola outbreak out of control."

Urgent Ebola outbreak news today; CDC Director Tom Freiden is back from a week's visit to the Ebola hot zone, with a grave assessment of the situation to report.

Fox News reports Freiden of the Center for Disease Control went through Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, countries severely hit by the epidemic, visiting patient wards while wearing the HazMat suit.

In a CDC press conference, Freiden confirms the dire circumstances in the areas affected. "The bottom line is that despite tremendous efforts from the U.S. government, CDC, from within countries, the number of cases continues to increase and is now increasing rapidly."

"There is a window of opportunity to tramp this down. but that window is closing...we need action now to scale up the response."

Freiden says immediate action is crucial, now that the virus is moving faster than anyone has anticipated.

The Ebola outbreak news today is a green flag to worry, according to Freidman. "It's not just in the interest of these countries to get it under control. For every day that this continues to spread in West Africa, the likelihood of someone getting infected and becoming sick elsewhere increases."

Freiden's doom-and-gloom news is warranted, in reference to the 1976 Ebola outbreak in the Congo, which is tame by comparison to the current situation in affected African countries.

Areas unaffected by the disease need to be trained about the possibility of an outbreak. In Senegal, West Africa, a health emergency was recently declared when a 21-year old student coming from Guinea arrived with symptoms of Ebola.

Joanne Liu of Doctors Without Borders expressed the same sentiment in a UN speech Tuesday. "Six months into the worst Ebola epidemic in history, the world is losing the battle to contain it. Ebola treatment centres are reduced to places where people go to die alone, where little more than palliative care is offered." (msf.ca)

Ebola outbreak news today are as serious as it gets, with efforts to contain the spread intensified.
