"The Money" Team has admitted that they are not working with strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza for Floyd Mayweather's next fight. "Money", however, believes that his opponent Marcos "El Chino" Maidana is trying to pull a "Margarito type move."
Floyd Mayweather's next fight is scheduled for September 13th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be "Money's" first rematch since his last one against Mexican contender Jose Luis Castillo in 2002, where he won both fights.
Anonymous reports have floated around about strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza working with "The Money Team." Both camps, due to personal disagreements fired Ariza, who had previously worked with Manny Pacquiao under Freddie Roach and all of Robert Garcia's fighters such as Brandon Rios.
Mayweather, however, clarified that Ariza was not working with them full time, but was merely overseeing some aspects of their training.
"Alex came and watched me train a couple of times," Mayweather told Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub. "He watched me run a couple of times. I think he came to see is it really true that I work that hard. Is it really true that I'm dedicated to my craft like that."
"Alex Ariza was just showing me different stretches that I can use, that's going to make everything more comfortable," he continued.
One of the main issues during the first encounter between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana was the gloves to be used by "El Chino." The Mayweather camp initially protested on what the Maidana camp wanted to use, which resulted to a controversy just two days before fight night.
But for Floyd Mayweather's next fight, "The Money Team" has declared that they are making sure that no untoward incidents as such would happen again, but went on to say that "El Chino" was trying to pull a "Margarito type move."
This was in reference to the controversy involving Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito in 2009, who was caught with a layer of Plaster of Paris on his hand wraps with the intent to harden its surface.
"Why is this guy so adamant about wearing these gloves?" Mayweather continued. "It's obvious he's trying to pull an Antonio Margarito type move. Like I said before, if you're trying to win, do it in an even playing field."
