Miguel Cotto's next fight has officially been moved to early 2015, and the fighter's camp revealed that trainer Freddie Roach's unavailability to be present during training as the main reason for pushing back the reigning middleweight champion's year end bout.

Miguel Cotto's next fight was initially slated for December 6th, at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Puerto Rican boxing veteran is coming off a victory against Argentine middleweight sensation Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez, whom he defeated inside ten rounds, with three knockdowns during the onset in the process.

However, the fighter's camp was made to reschedule Miguel Cotto's next fight to 2015. Cotto himself confirmed the news through his Twitter account.

"Fans I wanted to share with you all that my return to the ring will be in early 2015!!. Thank you for the amazing support. #WarCotto," the 33-year old fighter tweeted.

No reports about the December 6th fight came about, and no opponents were named, although fighters such as Genandy Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez, and even welterweights such as Floyd Mayweather and Timothy Bradley were among the shortlist.

It was later revealed by the Cotto camp that the main reason behind the rescheduling of Miguel Cotto's next fight was due to trainer Freddie Roach's hectic schedule. The famed trainer is currently with Manny Pacquiao around Asia as they prepare to face Chris Algieri in Macau, China on November 22nd.

"We were trying to coordinate having [Roach] with him at all times during his camp for the planned December fight, but at the end, it was not possible due to his prior commitments with various fighters that will train in Asia during a good part of that period," adviser Gaby Penagaricano said in an interview with ESPN.com. "We looked at various scenarios, but at the end, Miguel decided to wait until next year. He has no problem at all not fighting this year and is very happy with his decision."

ESPN also reports that Freddie Roach did speak to Miguel Cotto about coming to the Philippines to train Pacquiao, but the Puerto Rican middleweight declined the offer.
