A few days from now, one flagship phone will join the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 battle -- the Apple iPhone 6! But currently, HTC One M8 is reportedly the best phone of the year despite all the hype related to S5. Why is it so?
Aside from the more classy appeal of HTC One M8's Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver or Amber Gold case, here's a recap of their specs and features that might just point out M8's edge over the Samsung Galaxy S5:
Display
Galaxy S5 has a 5.1 inch super AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 at 430 ppi. HTC One (M8) on the other hand, has a 5 inch super LCD display rendering the same resolution of S5 only with higher pixel density - 441 ppi.
S5's display features include 3D Capability and Additional Display Support which are not available in M8. However, both devices have ambient light sensors, multi touch features, and proximity sensors.
Hardware
M8 is powered by Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.3 GHz with 2GB of RAM. Samsung is also powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, only clocked at 2.5 GHz with 2GB of RAM. As per Rightware Browsermark, a site that measures gaming, browser, and user interface performance for mobile devices, S5 is faster than M8 but nonetheless, the hardware features of this flagship phone from HTC is definitely better from its predecessor's tech.
Both phones are available in 16 and 32 GB variants, but HTC One M8 can support memory card up to 132 GB as compared to S5's 128 GB.
OS/Features
HTC One M8 has been a favorite because of the cleaner and more manageable 6 Sense UI. Samsung's TouchWiz is too stylish for some that it may look a bit unorganized.
HTC One M8's Motion Launch shortcut control is of course present in this smartphone allowing users to answer incoming calls, launch the camera, wake up the phone, and make a quick voice call through simple gestures.
Aside from the gesture controls, there's a wide range of colored themes to personalize your phone; HTC Sense 6 seems to keep up with a more modern look. it also features the BlinkFeed launcher which adds an optional scrolling pane to give you easy access to app content and social media updates via home screen.
Samsung Galaxy S5 on the other hand, adds up the new Gear 2 smartwatch and Gear Fit activity tracker. It also comes with improved security features like the fingerprint scanner and 'Private Mode' setting.
Camera
Samsung S5 has a 16 MP rear camera and 2.1 MP front-facing camera, while HTC M8 has a stunning Dual 4 MP, 2688х1520 pixels and 5 MP front-facing camera.
Battery
S5 carries a 2800 mAh Li Ion battery while HTC has 2600 mAh Li Polymer. Samsung can last 29 hours of talking time as compared to M8's 20 hours. However, we also need to consider the high energy consumption of Samsung when it comes to apps and other features. Users attest that HTC One M8 can last longer than Samsung Galaxy S5 due to less energy consumption and better management of applications.
Price
HTC One M8 is priced at $620, which is higher than the $582-worth Samsung device, but others are willing to spend extra-dollars for the HTC flagship.
