Rumors of an iPhone 6 128GB just sounded more legit, with Apple reportedly planning to scrap plans for the Sapphire crystal display.

iPhone 6's 128GB version is a running rumor for some time now, and many consider it wishful thinking for Apple to realize plans for this. It's not farfetched for the tech giant to upgrade its newest iPhone's storage, though, with the 4.7 and 5.5-inch versions for the iPhone 6 confirmed.

Recent leaks may have just confirmed an iPhone 6 128GB in the works, even slated for an early release. The news comes with a serious tradeoff, though, especially for those anticipating an iPhone installed with the durable Sapphire crystal display.

An investors' note released this Thursday offered plenty of leaks on upcoming Apple releases. Aside from updates on the iWatch and iPad air, the changes on iPhone 6's specs are notable. It appears the rumors of the Sapphire crystal display being scrapped are confirmed.

Apple Insider and KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the iPhone 6 will retain its Gorilla Glass display, both for the 4.7 and 5.5-inch versions. Sapphire is a tougher alternative to the material Apple currently uses on its devices, and is installed on the touch ID fingerprint sensor, also on the rear camera lens of the iPhone 5s.

News of the Sapphire crystal display being scrapped is a disappointment, but there's a silver lining to the bad news. Kuo expects Apple to release an iPhone 6 128GB version, a serious upgrade to the current maximum of 64GB.

This seems an odd feature, considering Apple's iOS 8 for the iPhone will maximize the use of cloud storage on the mobile device. Still, additional storage space never hurt mobile devices.

Apple already plans to release a 128GB version of the iPad, so it isn't so surprising that an iPhone 6 128GB is also in the works. The dilemma Apple users have to face is in the price, though. With the 64GB iPhone currently at $399,the 128GB is expected to fetch as much as $100 more piled on top (source: cnet.com).
