Melissa Rivers is currently mourning the loss of her mother, Joan Rivers and while she's at it, the talk show host's only child may be contemplating to file a medical malpractice case against Joan's doctors.
A veteran negligence attorney confirmed that millions of dollars could be at stake if Melissa decides to file a negligence suit following her mother's tragic and untimely death, according to the NY Daily News.
This is because the 81-year-old "Fashion Police" host was still earning from her TV shows, television appearances and books.
"Normally an 81-year-old widow with grown children is not expected to be working. However, she was still a very big earner and in otherwise good health. There could be millions at stake," the attorney said.
In order to win the case, Melissa should first file a case against the Yorkville Endoscopy Center where the talk show host went into cardiac arrest during a throat procedure on Thursday, August 28.
There are several different angles that need to be considered before Melissa and her family could file a case.
Multiple sources have previously revealed that there is a relatively high chance that Joan's doctors did not monitor her closely because they are unaware of how much time her brain has been deprived of oxygen ever since she went into cardiac arrest, Music Times reported.
In another scenario, it is still unclear whether or not the sedative given to the funny woman was too strong for her, considering her delicate age of 81, the same publication noted.
Rivers' autopsy results was inconclusive and it has been said that more tests are needed to pinpoint the actual cause of the talk show host's death.
Melissa has meanwhile expressed to family and friends her belief that her mother would have still been alive if she underwent the endoscopy procedure at the hospital and not at the Yorkville Endoscopy Center, Times of India reported.
