If you loved the Tom Cruise starrer Minority Report, which was released back in 2002, then you're in for a treat. Fox has officially confirmed that it will be bring the Steven Spielberg movie to the small screen, in what is planned to be the Minority Report movie's sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Minority Report TV show will pick up ten years after the dismantling of the controversial Precrime department in Washington D.C. One of the three "Precogs" (pre-cognitive psychics) is shown to be trying to forget his past as a Precog but is constantly troubled by visions of what will hapen in the future. The Precog then meets a detective who might just be the key in allowing him to make use of his prophetic visions for good.
According to several reports, this new Minority Report TV series will be composed of female characters, which is in contrast to the mostly male cast that the movie had.
It will be recalled that the Minority Report movie was an action packed neo-noir sci fi thriller that was directed by Steven Spielberg based on the Philip K. Dick short story also called "Minority Report." The movie's setting was in 2054, where a futuristic police department called PreCrime uses Precogs or three people with psychic attributes to stop crimes even before it happens. The movie starred Tom Curise as PreCrime Captain John Anderton, Colin Farrell as a Justice Department Anent, and Samantha Morton as the senior PreCog. The movie grossed $ 350 million at the box office.
Though met with critical acclaim, some analysts did question the film's ending, which they believe was too tidy and happy to be "real." Some even gave their own interpretation of the happy ending as a product of John Anderton's hallucinations, and therefore not real.
In any case, this new TV show based on the Minority Report movie might explore this angle, and answer some of the more pressing questions the film raised.
