Actor Michael C. Hall has been tapped to join the cast of Broadway play "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."
Hall will be portraying the role of the German transsexual rocker Hedwig in the popular musical, according to TIME.
The "Dexter" star is best known not only for his role in the series but also for his involvement in HBO's "Six Feet Under" and "The Realistic Joneses."
At present, the role of Hedwig is being played by "The Book of Mormon" star Andrew Rannells, who also served as a replacement to "How I Met Your Mother" actor Neil Patrick Harris starting August 17 of this year.
Rannells was previously seen in shows like "Girls" and "The New Normal."
Harris, who helped make the Broadway show a huge success by making it one of the top sellers on Broadway, expressed his excitement over the news that Hall will take on Rannells' place, Entertainment Wise reported.
On Twitter he wrote, "Couldn't be more excited that Michael C. Hall will be the new @HedwigOnBway 10/16/1/4! Great choice! See him or punch yourself in the face!"
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is written by John Cameron Mitchell. It follows the life of a rock 'n' roll band headed by Hedwig, a German transsexual.
In between songs on the Broadway show, Hedwig and other cast members share funny and heartbreaking stories about what their lives were like as individuals and as a band.
More specifically, "The show tells the story of an East German man whose sex change operation goes wrong, and who goes on to reinvent himself as a punk rock 'internationally ignored songstress,'" BBC noted.
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" won four Tony Awards in June, including prize for best revival of a musical and best lead actor in musical for Harris, the same publication confirmed.
