A longer, sadder and more heartbreaking teaser clip for "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 has been released on Monday by the CW.

In the clip, Elena, played by actress Nina Dobrev, is featured suffering over the loss of his best friend and boyfriend Damon, played by actor Ian Somerhalder.

Elena asks help from her friends Caroline, Tyler and Stefan to help her find the love of her life. However, Stefan adamantly tells her that Damon is already gone and will no longer return, according to TV Line.

Also in the trailer, Elena deals with the loss in the most painful way possible - by killing and feeding on other people. Caroline is surprised by her actions and calls her on it but to no avail.

Elena's strong feelings for Damon trigger her to hallucinate over his existence. At one point, Elena imagines that Damon was still alive, however his words were haunting when he asked her to move on.

Meanwhile, Alaric is back and he's become friends with Caroline. The two are teaming up to find ways to help Elena deal with her recent loss.

However, one of the most shocking twists to watch out for this season is Stefan's new love interest.

Stefan's, played by Paul Wesley, is featured kissing an unknown girl who asks him at one point what was the most unique about him.

He immediately confesses to being a vampire and the rest is history. It is unclear whether or not the Stefan's new love interest would continue to be his flame throughout the entire season.

Meanwhile, Somerhalder recently posted a photo taken off of the first episode this season via his Instagram account, Movie Pilot noted.

He wrote, "Wow, it's started! This is a screen shot, I'll probably get in trouble for it J from the 1st episode, Hmm, who am I talking to? Here I am, doing some post production work on Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries with our INCREDIBLE post production team..."
