The Amazon Fire Phone specs compete with heavyweights in the smartphone arena, and the recent release of the iPhone 6 just bumped up the odds a notch.
Amazon bumped up its smartphone in affordability, though, with a price point down from $200 to a measly 99 cents, paired with a two-year contract. CNET considers the pricing strategy a "much-needed shot in the arm."
The Amazon Fire Phone specs are now launched to the UK market, following a rather lukewarm response in the US. Amazon's entry in the smartphone arena is an exclusive device, which ties in to the online retail giant's many services, also making its products more accessible with a dedicated handset.
The smartphone is exclusively available on O2, and features a product recognition application which allows for easy reference on items available on Amazon, using the camera. The phone comes with a free one-year subscription of Amazon Prime, with on-demand video, music, and book downloads.
The Amazon Fire Phone specs will have a hard time catching anyone's attention, with Apple's new devices unveiled. Its 4.7-inch, 720p display, 32 GB and 64GB storage, 2.2 GHz processor, and 2GB of RAM round up a mid-range device at best.
PC Advisor does highlight the Amazon Fire Phone's best feature, its Dynamic Perspective made possible by four front-facing cameras.
"The Fire phone's signature feature is of course the widely leaked four front-facing cameras which Amazon calls Dynamic Perspective. This enables a variety of things, including auto-scrolling, tilting and navigating menus - all possible without needing to touch the screen.
Amazon has added support for the technology to the built-in apps including maps and games. For example, you can 'peek' in maps to see Yelp ratings, or move your head around in Lili to look around corners or objects."
The device also features a Firefly button which serves as a personal assistant, affording functions like saving contacts, making calls, and sending emails without the need to type lengthy details. The button also automatically recognizes content and allows for easy reference to online stores, particularly items on Amazon.
