Floyd Mayweather's next fight will likely be the third to the last for "Money". Boxing's current pound-for-pound also dismissed a rumored deal with Bob Arum and Top Rank regarding the mega fight against Manny Pacquiao.
Floyd Mayweather's next fight will be a rematch against Marcos "El Chino" Maidana, whom he already faced during this year's Cinco de Mayo weekend, wherein he emerged victorious via majority decision. It will also be his fourth fight out of a lucrative six-fight deal with television network Showtime.
In an interview with ESPN, "Money" revealed his immediate future plans, which touched on what he intends to do once his deal with the television giant expires.
"My next fight is in May and my last fight is in September, so a year from now will be my last fight," Mayweather said. "I only got two more fights left, and after the next two fights I just want to build the Mayweather Promotions brand."
But despite the fact that he is already looking beyond his task at hand, which is dealing with Marcos Maidana, the current pound-for-pound boxing king is not overlooking the opposition.
"As of right now, my focus is on Maidana," Mayweather said. I can't focus on the other two fights after that. I have to focus on Maidana. After that we can't say who's the next two are going to be but I'm pretty sure the next two will be exciting fights."
While many deemed Floyd Mayweather's next fight appropriate, the majority of fans are still clamoring for a fight against Manny Pacquiao. Rumors have circulated that Top Rank and Bob Arum were in talks with the Mayweather camp, but this was met with an outright denial from "Money."
"Not true," Mayweather confirmed. "I can't say what the future holds, but Arum and Pacquiao is trying to sell tickets for the (fight with the) guy named (Chris) Algieri. Trying to sell tickets for that fight. I don't know where they fighting, I don't know anything about what Top Rank is doing."
