The book Fifty Shades of Grey was such a massive hit, especially among female readers that a movie version was virtually inevitable. And of course, everyone's concern was who will be the best actor to bring its male lead to life? When the news broke that Sons Of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam was to be in 50 Shades of Grey as Christian Grey, opinion was divided whether he fit the role or not.

But it wasn't long before another bit of news broke, and this time, it was that the movie version had another actor was announced as the new Christian Grey. The reason given for Charlie Hunnam's departure from the 50 Shades of Grey movie was that too busy in an "immersive TV schedule." The Sons of Anarchy star was soon replaced by Calvin Klein model and budding actor Jamie Dornan. Yet today, news has surfaced that there is a deeper reason for the actor to have dropped out of a role that would have made him a household name, at least among the women.

In an interview with MovieFone, the actor opened up about the real reason the Charlie Hunnam in 50 Shades of Grey scenario wasn't going to work out. "I was going to finish Sons [of Anarchy] at like 11 p.m. Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for Fifty, missing the whole first week of rehearsal and start shooting Monday morning," the actor shared. "And I was going to shoot that film, wrap that on the Wednesday and the following Monday I was going to start shooting Crimson Peak in Toronto. I just had like ... frankly, something of a nervous breakdown."

Crimson Peak is an upcoming horror movie by director Guillermo del Toro that the actor is also starring in.

"I just said, 'I can't ... I can't ..." Charlie shared. "To fail on such a grand scale - because Fifty's going to be massive, it's going to be huge. I really didn't want to fail on such a grand scale and I just couldn't transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours. I bit off more than I could chew and it was painful. I loved the character and I wanted to do it."
