Robert De Niro And Zac Efron’s ‘Dirty Grandpa' Gets 2015 Release Date: It’s Not A ‘Bad Grandpa' Sequel; But Can It Make Any Difference?

Zac Efron joins Robert De Niro in the road trip comedy film Dirty Grandpa landing on a Christmas 2015 release date. Charlie St. Cloud star Efron will bag the role of a young man who's tricked into driving his 'perverted former Army general' grandpa (De Niro) just before his wedding - perhaps a great tactic to keep him away from marrying the 'wrong' woman.

This plot is no longer new to us. We've seen it in the The Guilt Trip (2012) and Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013). While seeing old fellas do and even initiate crazy things never fail to make us laugh, we could only hope for the great tandem of Zac Efron and Robert de Niro to pull it off. After all, they've individually impressed us with their comedic roles in Meet the Fockers and Neighbors.

Cinema Blend also questions the efficiency of its director Dan Mazer: "Mazer is best regarded for contributing to the screenplays of such Sacha Baron Cohen vehicles as Borat and Bruno. But as a director, he's not exactly a promising prospect."

As we wait for some tiny bits about the entire concept and cast of Dirty Grandpa, let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for a remarkable plot twist.

Dirty Grandpa is a Lionsgate film to be penned by Barry Josephson, Bill Block, John Phillips, and Michael Simkin. It is expected to compete with other holiday blockbusters such as Mission Impossible 5, The Revenant, and Joy. (via Hollywood Reporter)
