C Story, the production company behind the upcoming TV Chosun drama "The Greatest Marriage," stands behind their decision to cast actress Park Si Yeon in a leading role. In the latest stills for that drama, the actress is seen as a TV news anchor, preparing to read the day's leading news stories. She seems poised and confident.
But that may be because her character is not just any news anchor. Her character Cha Ki Young is so attractive that she has been voted the woman men most want to marry. And university students want to be just like her.
It's Park Si Yeon's first drama role since Nice Guy" in 2012. She did work on the film "The Last Knights" with Clive Owen, Morgan Freeman and Ahn Sung Ki set to premiere in Korea in 2015.
"It has been a while since Park Si Yeon appeared in a drama," a C Story representative said. "She has displayed a lot of passion for the role. A lot of people have already paid us compliments about casting her. Fans will be in for a pleasant surprise when they see her playing the role of a news anchor."
"The Greatest Marriage" tells the story of four couples and their relationships. Actors Bae Soo Bin and No Min Woo also have roles in the drama. No Min Woo plays a rich boy who works as a reporter. Bae Soo Bin, who appeared as the corrupt prosecutor in the 2013 drama "Secrets," plays a talented TV journalist.
The character Cha Ki Young is not just a successful news anchor. She's also a woman who takes on the challenge of maintaining her career when she becomes a single mother.
While in real life Park Si Yeon is married, she does know something about balancing motherhood and a career. She gave birth to her first child, a daughter, in Sept. 2013.
During the last two years the actress has had more than one reason for not being seen on the small screen. She stayed home to care for her new daughter. But she also suffered some career damage because of a court case regarding her alleged use of the drug propofol. According to her doctor's testimony, she was originally prescribed the drug to cope with pain caused by on-set injuries. But the court ruled that while Park may have received a prescription, she had become dependent on the drug. She had to pay a $4,000 fine and serve two years probation.
Her appearance in "The Greatest Marriage" may help counter some of that damage.
