The Brittany Murphy biopic, which premiered on Lifetime Channel over the weekend hinted that the late "Clueless" actress was murdered. The Lifetime special's lead cast member Amanda Fuller also shared her opinions on the late star's mysterious death.

The Brittany Murphy biopic aired over the weekend was slammed by negative reviews. Part of the reason was its alleged failure to live up to the "murder mystery" angle it showed in its promotional preview clips.

Brittany Murphy was 32 when she passed away in 2009. She rose to fame after starring in the 90s teen classic "Clueless" alongside Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash. Her other films included "Girl, Interrupted" with Angelina Jolie and "8 Mile" with Detroit rapper Eminem.

Brittany Murphy's death was ruled as a result of pneumonia, with anemia and over-the-counter drug intoxication as secondary factors. However, a shocking twist reported by Brittany Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, to In Touch magazine has associated his daughter's death with his former wife, Sharon Murphy.

"Sharon Murphy should be interviewed and investigated, first and foremost," he responded after being asked about the investigations on Brittany Murphy's death, as well as that of her husband, Simon Monjack, who died 6 months later.

When Angelo Bertolotti was asked if he suspects Sharon Murphy of being involved in Brittany Murphy's death, as well as their son-in-law Simon Monjack's untimely passing, he responded: "Yes, I do."

However, the Brittany Murphy biopic was reportedly unable to tackle this angle thoroughly. "The movie isn't a murder mystery. Outside the first five minutes of the film, it doesn't explore the darker speculations surrounding Murphy's life and death - which, while exploitive, would have at least made for an interesting watch," said a review from Epoch Times.

The Brittany Murphy biopic lead star Amanda Fuller was also on the receiving end of some criticisms thrown at the Lifetime Channel special, particularly because she had no remote physical resemblance to the late teen star.

The actress, who played one of Time Allen's daughters on "Last Man Standing", explained to ABC News: "The producers told me 'This is not a look-alike piece. Hopefully once people get into the story, they forget that I don't look exactly like Brittany, but follow the journey of the relationships."

Amanda Fuller also said she does not think that Brittany Murphy was murdered.

"I truly believe that what we know to be true from the coroner's report is what is true," she told ABC News. "I don't play into any of the controversy stuff, murder and all that."
