Tony Stewart will know his fate late next week - Will he be criminally liable in the death of his fellow race car driver, Kevin Ward, Jr?
Ontario County Sheriff's Department has completed its investigation in the accident that involved Tony Stewart and led to the death of Kevin Ward Jr. on August 9, 2014 at the Canandaigua, New York, Motorsports Park. Everyone will just have to wait for the district attorney to make announcement about it next week, wrote Sporting News.
According to a news release from Sheriff Philip C. Povero, "The entire thorough investigation, including a forensic video enhancement recently received from the New York State Police Laboratory in Albany, has been submitted to the Office of the Ontario County District Attorney for review. The District Attorney's Office, which has been meeting throughout the investigative process with members of the Sheriff's Office, will make a statement late next week advising what action will be taken regarding the investigation."
What people look out for from this investigation is to know whether it was an accident or if it's Stewart's fault. But regardless of the outcome, the champion driver said that this will "affect his life forever".
Since the sprint car racing incident where Tony Stewart allegedly hit Kevin Ward, Jr., he had missed three races - Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn and Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. He made his return at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia on August 29 and faced the media.
He said in a short statement: "I've taken the last couple of weeks off out of respect for Kevin and his family and also to cope with the accident my own way. It's given me the time to think about life and how easy it is to take it for granted. I miss my team, my teammates, and I miss being back in the race car. I think being back in the car this week with my racing family will help me get through this difficult time."
