The hosts had the better chances of the game and dominated possession for large parts, but Leonardo Ulloa's second-half finish secured the three points after a swift Leicester counter attack.

It was a repeat scoreline of Stoke's opening day defeat to Aston Villa at the Britannia Stadium and Hughes felt they should have taken something from the clash with Nigel Pearson's men.

"We're frustrated because we've had the vast majority of the game and once again we've succumbed to a sucker-punch on the counter attack," he told Sky Sports.

"We conceded a goal from one of their very few attacks on our goal. We're disappointed. We had numerous opportunities to get back on level terms.

"Credit to Leicester - they got plenty of blocks in and were resolute defending corners and it was frustrating for us.

"I thought we were excellent in the first half in terms of moving the ball and shifting it and creating chances but they defended manfully in the second half.

"Once again we have allowed an opposition team to come here and score first.

"In the Premier League, that's something that is unforgivable really because that makes your day's work a lot more difficult.

"It's very similar to the situation we found ourselves in when we played Villa at the start of the season, but in saying that, I think we played markedly better today than we did against Villa.

"But once again the result is exactly the same so we need to find a way, we need just a bit of the run of the ball.

"With any number of the chances, the ball could have dropped in the box to one of our guys.

"If we had scored the opening goal I think we would have taken the game to them."
