"Point Break" remake is really happening! The cast and crew were recently seen in Tahiti shooting some awesome surfing scenes. Seen in action was professional surfer Tikanui Smith, who is a native of Moorea, which is Tahiti's sister island. The 22-year old surfer has been riding the waves for the past ten years. Based on his Facebook page, Tikanui or also known as Tika always tries to put on a show for his friends and family by joining contests like the VZ Teahupoo Trials for the hope of being nominated at the Billabong XXL Award.
According to The Independent, "Tikanui Smith was seen riding a wave as other surfers watched on during filming on the action crime thriller on Thursday." I'm pretty sure the surfer gave them a good show since he enjoys all the attention and has surfed in Teahupoo before. However, it looks like there were no celebrity sightings during the shooting because the website didn't report any of the actors involved in the film.
"Point Break" remake is headlined by Luke Bracey (Johnny Utah) and Edgar Ramirez (Bodhi). The movie also stars Teresa Palmer (Tyler) and Ray Winstone (FBI agent Angelo Pappas). The reboot of the Kathryn Bigelow film is directed by Ericson Core, who is known for his work in "Daredevil", "The Fast and the Furious", and "Payback".
Surfline reported that you will only find a select few stuntmen in the water because Teahupoo was closed for filming the new "Point Break" movie. The website's forecaster Kevin Wallis said, "An XXL, long period swell is en route to Tahiti and will peak for Teahupo'o on Thursday the 11th." He added, "While the swell is aimed slightly east of Tahiti, it still will produce very solid surf for Teahupo'o that will easily surpass anything the recent WCT event witnessed, although likely lully at times."
Wallis explained, "With the very long period and more westerly direction of the swell we can expect to see exceptionally square, mutant looking waves." One of the key behind-the-scenes operators, Raimana Van Bastolaer, expressed his appreciation for choosing Teahupoo as one of the shooting locations for "Point Break" remake. He told the website, "It's giving a lot of local people work, like when the contest comes, so we are happy to host the film crew, work with them and help them get what they need."
