Minecraft Xbox One is doing more than just merging with Microsoft to produce new game features, suggested by a report in USA Today.

A USA Today article indicated that alleged reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal announced Microsoft under negotiations with Mojang AB for a possible $2 billion acquisition. Mojang AB is the maker of the Minecraft game.

If the deal materializes, it will be implemented under the supervision of Satya Nadella, the new Microsoft executive who assumed office in February. According to USA Today, Nadella is an advocate of promoting and enhancing Minecraft in Xbox One.

Daniel Ives, a markets analyst, commended Nadella's efforts, saying, as reported in USA Today:

"It would further solidify Nadella's commitment to the Xbox platform,"

"which we believe is a positive as the company continues down the mobile/cloud path over the coming years."

Since it hit the market in 2009, Minecraft has garnered $54 million in total of sales revenue, according to USA Today. In addition to Minecraft Xbox One, the game is also available in Play Station 3 and Xbox 360.

The popularity of Minecraft Xbox One does not mean the end for the popularity of the game's rivals, such as Minecraft in Play Station 4, as observed by Ives.

Ives said, as reported in USA Today:

"(Nadella) understands that you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot, so keep it cross-platform."
