Apple has sold a record of 4 million units of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus 24 hours after it started accepting online preorders. For this reason, several buyers may have to wait until October to receive their phones.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said that, "iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do. Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can't wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday."
The company admitted that demand for both units exceeded its initial pre-order supply but it said that significant number of units will be delivered to customers from Sept. 19 to end of the month. Apple also made it clear that there's additional supply of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus for walk-in buyers on Friday, Sept. 19, 8am at Apple retail stores. Both models can also be purchased on the same date at Sprint, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and other authorized retailers. Customers are advised to arrive early.
For Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus preorders, interested buyers are likewise encouraged to order at the Apple online store and get an estimated delivery date or choose pick up in-store.
Aside from the U.S., the newest iPhone models will also be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK on Friday, Sept. 19. On Sept. 26, lucky customers from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates can buy them.
