What Robert Downey Jr. said a few weeks ago may finally end all "Iron Man 4" rumors. The actor that plays playboy billionaire Tony Stark spilled out some major spoilers that will truly spoil your day if you're an avid "Iron Man" fan. During an interview with Variety, the Hollywood superstar tried to clear out all speculations of another sequel. Downey Jr. said, "No, there's no plan for a fourth Iron Man."
The website also asked him if he would allow somebody else to take over his role and he made a joke about it. The 49-year old actor said, "I like that the idea is that it would be up to me, like I'm casting director for Marvel." However, his co-star in the film "Judge", Robert Duvall advised him not to let anyone get his role. The veteran actor said, "Don't give it to anybody else."
One of the most talked about "Iron Man 4" rumors in the past is about a younger actor replacing Robert Downey Jr. since he will be turning 50 next year. Even the actor himself has given recasting a thought even if it will be difficult for him to do that.
Comic Book Movie reported him telling Empire, "It would probably be the best thing in the world for me. You know, ego...but sometimes ego just has to be smashed. Let's see what happens. I take the audience very seriously - I feel bad when I see folks doing movies and the audience is like, 'Don't do that anymore.' I don't have to overstay my welcome..."
Robert Downey Jr. knows when to pass the armor, but there still may be hope for another sequel. Many people still want to see him return for "Iron Man 4", including film directors Joss Whedon (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Jon Favreau (Iron Man and Iron Man 2).
Cinema Blend reported Whedon saying during an interview, "He is Iron Man. He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond. I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I'll be called upon to do that." According to Movie Pilot, Favreau thinks that Robert Downey Jr. should return for "Iron Man 4". The director said, "I hope he continues doing it, and as long as he fits in that suit, there's no reason he shouldn't."
Before the actor tried to clear up all the "Iron Man 4" rumors, Screen Rant reported Downey Jr. saying: "It's that thing of: why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?... Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out." When asked if he will be returning for another "Iron Man" movie, he said: "The future is, as usual, uncertain." So there is still hope, folks!
