Miguel Cotto's next fight is set to be made final, with Canelo Alvarez named as the opponent for the Cinco De Mayo weekend for 2015. Golden Boy Promotions founer Oscar De La Hoya also believes the match-up's hype is next to that of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao mega fight.

Miguel Cotto's next fight was originally slated for December against an opponent yet to be named, however, the current WBC and Ring Magazine middleweight champion opted to sit out the rest of the year. According to the fighter's camp, the main reason for the postponement was Freddie Roach's unavailability to oversee the training.

"We were trying to coordinate having [Roach] with him at all times during his camp for the planned December fight, but at the end, it was not possible due to his prior commitments with various fighters that will train in Asia during a good part of that period," adviser Gaby Penagaricano said in an interview with ESPN.com. "We looked at various scenarios, but at the end, Miguel decided to wait until next year. He has no problem at all not fighting this year and is very happy with his decision."

In a report the The Los Angeles Times, Miguel Cotto's next fight is now being worked on by both De La Hoya and former rival promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, who handle's the Puerto Rican boxer's fights.

"I'm looking forward to sitting down, and seeing if we can make it happen," De La Hoya said.

The report also confirmed that the "cold war" between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions is slowly coming to an end, as both promoters have began agreements to work together.

For De La Hoya's part, at least, he believes that Miguel Cotto's next fight, which is potentially against Canelo Alvarez, is the next big match-up to make, apart from the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao mega bout.

"Behind Floyd and Manny, that's the fight people want to see," De La Hoya declared.
