Alistair Overeem's next fight may happen soon as "The Reem" himself declared his desire to return to competition after his loss two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, who is Overeem's former teammate, voiced out his desire to step up and fight.
Alistair Overeem's next fight is unscheduled as of this posting, as "The Reem" recovers from the loss he suffered against "Big Ben" Rothwell at UFC Fight Night 50 early this month. It was Overeem's third loss in his last four fights, as he drops to a professional mixed martial arts record of 37-14.
During his appearance on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour, the former Strikeforce champion expressed his disappointment regarding his performance against Rothwell.
"I should have been more guarded, I should have been more careful," Overeem said. "We all knew Ben could take a punch, well maybe take a couple of punches, he's a tough guy. He's got hard hands. And I just made a mistake."
The former PRIDE FC legend also declared that he wants to return to come back to competing soon, hopefully before the year ends.
"[I'd like to fight] as soon as possible, because I was not out," Overeem added. "I was not sleeping. I was just dazed, and Ben capitalized. So I guess if it's up to me, not too far away."
Meanwhile, light heavyweight contender Anthony "Rumble" Johnson expressed his intentions to face Overeem. Ironically, Johnson and Overeem were former teammates under the Blackzilians fight team out of Delray Beach, Florida.
"I'll fight him, I don't care. I've already trained with him before," Johnson told Bloody Elbow about Alistair Overeem's next fight. "Why not? To me it's just a fight. If the fans want to see it, I'm down to do it. I ain't said no to any fight ever.
The UFC returnee had demolished both of his opponents since his return in April. In facing "The Reem", "Rumble" is open to do a catchweight bout.
"I'd meet him at a catchweight," he added. "If he wanted to meet me at 225, let's do it. Or whatever, 220, I'd do that. Or I'd meet at 230 at the dot, if he was down to go that far. Let's do it."
