After the first enticing trailer of the upcoming Into The Woods movie adaptation comes the first official poster of this new ensemble movie. Of course, if you have someone of actress' Meryl Streep's caliber, you would want her to headline your movie promotions.
And that is exactly what we see in the first Into The Woods movie poster which features an absolutely terrifying Meryl Streep as The Witch! This new poster comes after several official still photos of the movie were released earlier this month.
The Into The Woods movie stills Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Chris Pine as Prince Charming, Emily Blunt as the Baker's Wife, and James Corden as The Baker.
Earlier this year the film was getting much buzz by way of some controversial comments made by the musical's composer, Stephen Sondheim. He has been reported as saying that Disney is dialing down sexual content, and other more adult themes of the musical. Specifically, a romantic encounter between Prince Charming and the Baker's Wife, the death of Rapunzel, and the sexual nature of Red Riding Hood and the Wolf's relationship.
"You will find in the movie that Rapunzel does not get killed, and the Prince does not sleep with the Baker's Wife . . . Disney said, we don't want Rapunzel to die, so we replotted it. I won't tell you what happens, but we wrote a new song to cover it . . ."
Devoted fans of the Broadway musical expressed their dismay over various social media sites.
But Sondheim has since retracted his earlier comments. In a statement to Playbill magazine. "When the conversation with the teachers occurred, I had not yet seen a full rough cut of the movie," Sondheim said. "Coincidentally, I saw it immediately after leaving the meeting and, having now seen it a couple of times, I can happily report that it is not only a faithful adaptation of the show, it is a first-rate movie."
The Into The Woods movie will hit theaters this December.
