The very successful first two Star Trek films that have rebooted the sci-fi epic has meant that great excitement has been building up for the third installment of the franchise. Now in very thrilling Star Trek 3 news, it seems that the third part of the movie is coming sooner than expected. Zachary Quinto who plays Mr. Spock in the franchise, recently appeared on the Today show to talk about another project of his, a documentary series entitled The Chair.
Of course the hosts of the show will not let the opportunity pass without pressing the actor for some Star Trek 3 news. The actor gave a very intriguing answer to this question. He said, "I think it's on the horizon. Things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be in production sometime in the next six months.
This statement is in line with the reported news that Roberto Orci (The Amazing Spider Man 2 and Transformers) who co-wrote the first two Star Trek movies, has now finished the first draft of the third movie. This is very exciting Star Trek 3 news indeed, especially when the screenwriter revealed that the plot of Star Trek 3 will be much closer in theme and events to the original TV series.
Orci is also reportedly working with two new co-screenwriters for Star Trek 3. Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne will join Orci for screenwriting duties. While J.J. Abrams, who has his hands full directing the much awaited Star Wars VII, will probably be replaced as director as well. According to ScreenRant, Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) is the frontrunner for Star Trek 3 directorial duties.
No Star Trek 3 news on official plot or casting has been revealed, and the release date is not specific yet, but we do know it's scheduled to come out in 2016.
