Mind Candy Design: UK Game Makers Slowed Things Down In Lieu Of Adjusting To Massive Changes!

Mind Candy design Moshi Monsters concept online customized for kids has seen its share of success. As reported in Tech Crunch, the start-up game has taken the UK and the rest of the world by storm.

However, as the changes in the mobile industry begin to evolve, Mind Candy's design makers likewise see the need for internal changes, too.

Tech Crunch reported that Mind Candy's design staff saw layoff of 30 employees in the past weeks. This has caused the company's workers to drop to just a little more than 100, a sharp decrease of 100 workers since 2012.

The layoff came just in time for the launch of World of Warriors, the specialty game Mind Candy makers are popularly known to have created.

In an interview with Tech Crunch, Mind Candy's founder Michael Acton Smith said:

"It's been bumpy. There have been layoffs. It's not ideal, I wish it wasn't so. But we're still hiring and very well capitalised. Like all fast growing businesses you have to make adjustments from time to time. In the highly competitive mobile market where 'In-App Purchase' rules, it is extremely difficult to build magical, safe and commercially successful products for kids. Mind Candy is not the only family entertainment company grappling with this big challenge."

Smith refused to confirm allegations that most of the worker layoffs were within the Moshi Monsters team:

"No, the whole of the Moshi web team did not go. Last year we moved some people off the web team onto our new mobile projects. There were a small number of redundancies at that time."
