Matt Damon in "Bourne 5" is one of the hottest topics that netizens have passed around the grapevine since last year. With this come speculations that the Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass will be stepping in to work with the actor once more.
Screenrant reported that Matt Damon in "Bourne 5" will not be the first time Greengrass would be working with the actor. The duo has fused their efforts and talents together in creating "The Bourne Supremacy" and "Bourne's Ultimatum" franchises.
As it turns out, the fans' clamor for the return of Matt Damon in "Bourne 5" did not fall on deaf ears. Deadline has confirmed that Universal studios has actually given the go signal for a Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass reunion via the new franchise.
Does the upcoming action-thriller sequel have any connection to the "Bourne Legacy" sequel?
According to Screenrant, it does not seem likely. There were rumors about the plan to develop a Bourne Legacy follow-up, with Justin Lin directing the collaboration between Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross character and Matt Damon's Jason Bourne. However, this sequel is not part of it.
Deadline shared that Universal studios has its eyes fixed on this project and that it plans to start production soon. The target is to release the film on July 16, 2016, a schedule they have previously reserved for a Bourne film with no title yet. The Bourne film in question is the one where Jeremy Renner teams up with "Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin.
The studio is planning to expand the franchise base following the method that Marvel used in producing its superhero flicks. Although they started on the right foot with "The Bourne Legacy," still it did not quite measure up to the success that Jason Bourne started. Today, Universal studios is the official owner of both Bourne franchises.
