Channing Tatum playing "Gambit" is official. He may not have made his appearance in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," but there are speculations that he may be appearing in "X-Men: Apocalypse" along with returning characters Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Screenrant has reported that the upcoming sequel slated for release two years from now (2016) will not only feature Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). But he will be joined by other superheroes belonging to the First Class, particularly Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm.

As of this writing, production of the superhero film is underway. Bryan Singer who is hard at work on the franchise along with Simon Kinberg and scriptwriters Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris has already said that he wanted to include Gambit, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. However, he did not confirm if Channing Tatum as "Gambit" will be part of the cast.

Before the news of Channing Tatum playing "Gambit" was confirmed, the "Jupiter Ascending" actor has admitted his being an avid fan of the X-men character. He even went on to say that playing his character in any X-men movie will be a great honor, and that he would go as far as to emulate his distinctive Cajun twang, reported Screenrant.

A few months after his declaration, Lauren Shuler-Donner, the producer, has mentioned that she wanted Tatum's participation in the sequel. Thus, officially confirming that not only will the "22 Jumpstreet" actor play Gambit, but he would also be appearing in the "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Hit Fix divulged some other plans Shuler-Donner shared. Among them is a reunion of the original cast for another sequel. But she did not mention if this would occur in the upcoming sequel. Also, she talked about plans for solo spinoffs, stressing out that the studio has green-lighted Deadpool's film. With this, she also expressed how she hopes that Gambit's solo would follow suit.
