Channing Tatum in "Struck by Genius" trades his street-smart attitude in "22 Jumpstreet" for math wizardry, as he tackles the role of a party-animal turned genius after taking a bad beating in a messy brawl.

Fandango shares this latest news on the buff actor's upcoming role, which is a stark contrast to his latest role in "22 Jumpstreet." He radically shifts gears from comedy-action to heartwarming drama.

In the former, he cracked up fans with his and Jonah Hill's antics as goofy undercover cops. But this time, Channing Tatum in "Struck by Genius" movie would be inspiring them - possibly making them cry too - as he portrays the character of Jason Padgett, whose real life story serves as the basis for the film, reported Entertainment Weekly.

As Jason, Channing Tatum in "Struck by Genius" movie would be bringing to life on the big screen his astounding transformation from college party-goer to math genius. His life turned around completely, following a crippling brain injury he sustained after getting beaten up outside a karaoke bar. From extrovert, he turns into a complete savant introvert, shutting out the rest of the world as a hermit (The Hollywood Reporter).

According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie would be focusing on Jason's ordeal marked by difficulties with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and chronic pain before he finally found solace in art.

The Hollywood Reporter noted how Tinseltown's current It-boy has been turning heads with his acting prowess. After proving his mettle in "Foxcatcher," Channing is now more keen about taking on dramatic and unconventional, not typecast roles that opens door for producing.

Sony gets the film rights for the bestselling memoir of Jason Padgett who astounded the world by suddenly turning into a math whiz at the age of 31. Channing will be producing the film, along with his comrades in Free Association, Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan.
