"Married at First Sight" has reached its finale. Jamie and Doug, and Cortney and Jason chose to stay in marriage. It's the other way around for Monet and Vaughn.
For six months, viewers had seen everything - from wedding ceremony surprises, to honeymoon to moving in together... All episodes showed lessons that they should learn from.
Lesson #1: Communication, openness, acceptance, and shared goals are keys to making marriage work.
When Jason and Cortney made the decision to get married on their first meeting, they weren't sure if they will find love in each other. They cannot easily give trust, and say what's on their minds and what they feel. They have inhibitions. With the guidance of the four experts, they were able to communicate, open up with each other, learn to trust, and accept each other's weak spots. When the "Married at First Sight" finale came, they decided to stay in marriage and they admit to falling for each other. This is all because they have a shared goal: To make the marriage work for both of them.
Lesson #2: Marriage is not all about happy beginning and blissful ending.
The "Married at First Sight" finale did not only make viewers know who stayed together and who chose to go separate ways. It also made them see the realities of marriage - it's not all good, all love, and all fun. Marriage is about discovering the flaws of your partner and recognizing them. It is about engaging in honest discussions and listening to each other's feelings. More important, its success leans on being committed with each other.
But the show made it clear that it is not about encouraging people to do the same thing (marrying someone at first meeting). It aimed to find out if true love can also be found in scientific matching (with the help of experts) - without physical attraction and courtship but with commitment. Viewers knew the answer to this by now.
