The young actor has been on a role in great film roles such as Blake (Robin) in The Dark Knight Rises, and the lead romantic role in the cult favorite, (500) Days Of Summer. Not an easy feat for an actor who was once a child star (remember Angels In The Outfield and 3rd Rock From The Sun?). But the latest Joseph Gordon Levitt movies have proven that the transition need to not be so jarring.

The latest news is that the actor will add another feather to his cap because he has nabbed a pretty juicy role. According to Variety, director Oliver Stone (Born On The 4th Of July, Natural Born Killers) wants the 33 year old actor to star in his upcoming film. The role? Controversial whistleblower Edward Snowden, in a movie called The Snowden Files. Apparently, the actor wants to add this to his list of great Joseph Gordon Levitt movies, and has agreed to come on board this exciting new project.

Snowden has made headlines these past couple of years because the computer professional, who worked as system administrator for the Central Intelligence Agency. He leaked thousands of confidential National Security Agency papers to media agencies that detailed global surveillance programs used by the American government and several others in Europe.

He has since fled to Russia, where has has sought asylum. He is currently seeking asylum from the European Union. The United States has since charged him with two counts of violating the Espionage Act and theft of government property.

Previously, Oliver Stone had optioned the rights for the book on Snowden called "Time of the Octopus," which was written by Anatoly Kucherena, who has served as Snowden's lawyer.

If the deal pushes through, this upcoming Joseph Gordon Levitt movie could see him playing one of the most controversial figures in this century, one who has been called a hero, a traitor, a whistleblower, a patriot and a dissident.
