After iPhone 6 Plus bend gate issue, it is time for iPhone 6 and its competitors to undergo the same durability challenge.
Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy tested iPhone 6, HTC One Moto 8, Moto X, and Nokia Lumia.
iPhone 6 received the same pressure as iPhone 6 Plus. Unlike the bigger handset, iPhone 6 showed that it is made more durable. No significant deformation was seen. Under normal usage, it won't have the same issue as iPhone 6 Plus so users need not panic.
Next most requested for bend test is the HTC One Moto 8, which also has the same aluminum construction like the iPhone. A lot of people think that it will have the same result. But pushing from the back of the device using the same force, the glass lifted a little but can be placed back again. Generally, it did not have a bend gate issue.
If there's one smartphone that's really solid to survive the bend test it is Moto X, which just came out of the market. There was no noise heard, no movement observed, and most important of all, it passed the smartphone bend test. In fact, Moto X is the device to beat.
Last to take the bend test is a Nokia Lumia handset, known for its solid construction. Just a few seconds, a sound was heard. The top of the screen moves but like HTC One Moto 8, it can be put back again so there's nothing to worry. The Nokia Lumia phone is robust as well.
In other news, Apple breaks its silence and responds to bend gate issue. Here is the company's full statement as published by CBS News:
"Our iPhones are designed, engineered and manufactured to be both beautiful and sturdy. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature a precision engineered unibody enclosure constructed from machining a custom grade of 6000 series anodized aluminum, which is tempered for extra strength. They also feature stainless steel and titanium inserts to reinforce high stress locations and use the strongest glass in the smartphone industry. We chose these high-quality materials and construction very carefully for their strength and durability. We also perform rigorous tests throughout the entire development cycle including 3-point bending, pressure point cycling, sit, torsion, and user studies. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus meet or exceed all of our high quality standards to endure everyday, real life use.
With normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus. As with any Apple product, if you have questions please contact Apple."
