"Grey's Anatomy" season 11 kicked off the season with a highly emotional episode. Well, that's always expected with this kind of show.

The series opened with a flashback to the time when Meredith was about five years old and she saw several instances where her mother would be confined and treated at the hospital.

At a young age, Meredith was forced out of her mother's home and the frail young child had to leave behind a doll she loved too much.

Of course, with every Rhimes creation, the doll would later on signify greater things for Meredith - leaving behind many opportunities in her life and being away from her best friend Dr. Yang, according to TV Line.

Without Dr. Yang, Meredith will never be complete again, but the remarkable doctor has found a new 'person' in the character of Alex.

Meredith enters Alex's room as he was in bed with his girlfriend Miranda and the two got to talking about work, love and life in general. Alex's involvement in Meredith's life the entire season is definitely something to watch out for.

Meanwhile, Richard opens up about finding his daughter Maggie, a new resident at the hospital where he is working at.

Richard did not deliberately name names so it is still unclear if Maggie suspects that Richard is her father. But one thing is for sure - Maggie knows who her half sister is.

Meredith is clueless up to this point but she probably feels weird that Maggie has been trying to impress her and reach out to her - but to no avail, Celeb Dirty Laundry reported.

As of late, Meredith has just too many things on her plate and it's quite difficult for her to think of Maggie.

However, this does not mean that the sister's story wouldn't unfold anytime soon. Towards the end of the episode, both Meredith and Maggie find themselves at a nearby bar ordering the same type of drink - a tequila.

"Grey's Anatomy" airs every Thursday on ABC.
