Just as two confirmed lead roles for the male characters were announced this week, we have exciting news on the female lead as well. Earlier this week, it was reported that at least seven new names have been thrown in the mix for the True Detective season 2 cast. These include : Brit Marling (Another Earth), Oona Chaplin (Game Of Thrones), and Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes). Plus, there are more popular actresses thrown into the mix, and they include Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Jamie Alexander, and Rosario Dawson.
So what happened to the two previous frontrunners, Rachel McAdams and Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss? For reasons still unknown, it is apparent that Elisabeth Moss has dropped out of the True Detective season 2 cast race. But Rachel McAdams was said to have a scheduling conflict with the shoot of True Detective.
But today, Variety reports that McAdams seems to have sorted out her film schedule and is apparently locking in on the female lead role of HBO's hit detective drama. According to Variety, HBO has actually made an offer for the actress to star as the much-coveted lead role in their series.
If so, she will be joining the rest of the True Detective season 2 cast that has been confirmed, which include such well known actors as Colin Farrell, and Vince Vaughn. The third male actor expected to join the team is Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights).
But some exciting news has also come to light just recently about another casting choice for season 2. Keira Knightley's name has been thrown in to the mix of actors that might be appearing in the much awaited upcoming season of the HBO show. reports that the actress might be in the running for another role in the series.
If this were true, it would seem that there are two female lead roles to be expected. Unless Rachel McAdams has really not cleared up her work schedule to be available for True Detective season 2. We'll keep tabs on this news, and update you as details become available.
