"Karate Kid 2" confirmed to be in the works, according to Deadline.com. The first installment which released in 2010 includes actors Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. According to the source, the two protagonists will be reprised on the next installment.
The first installment was directed by Harald Zwart and it was released on July 11, 2010 in the USA. Based on Wikipedia, the first film grossed $359,126,022. While on its weekend opening, it garnered $56 million and ended with $343 million worldwide.
Previously, it was announced that "Karate Kid 2" new director will be Breck Eisner who's known for his movie "Taken". However, Hollywood Reporter updated report said that Eisner is no longer involved on the new sequel due to scheduling conflict.
There will be 2 new writers for "Karate Kid 2". They are Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer

"The sequel to Sony's 2010 "The Karate Kid" remake about a 12-year-old boy (Jaden Smith) who moves to China with his single mother (Taraji P. Henson). There he becomes enemies with the class bully and seeks help from a reclusive maintenance man (Jackie Chan) who teaches him to fight using kung fu. The sequel could move from China to the U.S.. Will Smith is producing with his Overbrook Entertainment partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz."
