The latest trailer for the Christian Bale as Moses film has been released today, and boy does it show director Ridley Scott in full form. The Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer is the latest big screen version based on the epic story of how Moses led 600,000 Israelites out of slavery from Egypt.
As what Forbes magazine has described it, it is basically a "battleification of the story we all learned about in Sunday school and or/watched in The Ten Commandments or The Prince of Egypt." Meaning, the story has been upped such that the battle scenes and action sequences, plus, the more spectacular elements of the story -- plagues, the parting of the Red Sea -- have all been highlighted. All of this are brought to its full glorious life in The Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer.
There is also a sense that the theme of brotherhood, rivalry and conflict between Moses and Rameses is made a focal point in the movie. We see in The Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer, that Christian Bale is shown facing off with the Pharaoh (played by Joel Edgerton), underlining the fact the two used to be as close as brothers, but fate has made them clash against one another in the biggest way.
This Ridley Scott movie is the latest in the recent spate of religious themed movies, such as the Nicolas Cage starrer Left Behind about the rapture, and Russel Crowe's Noah which showed earlier in the year. This film though, looks quite promising given the credentials of its director and main star. The Exodus Gods and Kings trailer has both the stunning action sequences and terrific acting.
Actor Christian Bale is always a delight to watch, as he truly inhabits whatever character he is playing. In an interview at the Fox lot for a special screening of the Exodus: Gods and Kings trailer, Bale shared what surprised him most about the role. Of Moses, the 40-year old actor says, "He was a very troubled, tumultuous man and mercurial."
