'The Sing-Off' is coming back!

NBC has given the green light to air 'The Sing-Off' season 5 according to Entertainment Weekly.

The show, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Mark Burnett's One Three Media, will be returning as a holiday event. As to how the broadcast will be scheduled, no reports have been given.

The singing survival show brought America a new kind of singing stars - acapella groups. Previous winners include Nota, Committed, Pentatonix, and the latest champions, Home Free.

Pentatonix will be joining 'Pitch Perfect 2,' sequel of the 2012 hit movie that starred Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, and Britney Snow. Another 'Sing-Off' contestant, Filipino-American group The Filharmonic, will also join the movie which is set to be released next year.

Hosted by 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey, season four had Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds as returning judges. Meanwhile, newcomer Jewel replaced Sara Bareilles on the judge's chair. However, EW noted that it is still unclear if all of the judges will be returning for the fifth season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is currently casting for 'The Sing-Offs' season 5.

Season four was renewed in 2013, after a hiatus of one and a half years . It aired as a seven-night broadcast but ended with a record low rating of only 5.2 million viewers. The show only got a 1.3 rating from the coveted 18-49 demographic on its finale show, which aired on December 23 last year.

NBC will also be broadcasting its high-profile live musical broadcast of Peter Pan set to air on December 4. 'Girls' actress Allison Williams will star as Peter Pan while Oscar award winner Christopher Walken will play Captain Hook. Taylor Louderman will be Wendy Darling and Alanna Saunders will play Tiger Lily,
