Ian Somerhalder dating Nikki Reed is not a hindrance to her team-up with ex Paul McDonald as the former couple gets cozy at a charity event.

Ian Somerhalder is dating Nikki Reed and the pair is going strong but it doesn't mean that she couldn't be friends with her ex, "American Idol" alum Paul McDonald, since they still share common interests, said MailOnline.

"The 'Twilight' star and McDonald got back together for a good cause - and on a friends-only basis - by attending Bloomingdale's The Pink Party together on Thursday," the British tabloid said." "The exes looked happy as they stood arm-in-arm at the New York City event, which supported The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Carey Foundation and The Marisa Acocella Marchetto Foundation."

The three non-profit organizations aims to provide assistance to the victims of breast cancer, breast cancer survivors as well as their families.

Both Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald had collaborated on the song "Now that I Found You" and they performed the song at the party.

Prior to the event, Nikki Reed announced that she will be performing at the event with this tweet: "Good morning NYC! Playing an acoustic show with @thepaulmcdonald Tonight to support @BCRFCure @Bloomingdales ..."

The reports of Ian Somerhalder dating Nikki Reed are not always favorable as fans continue to bash on the actress as they hope that the "Vampire Diaries" actor will reunite with co-star and ex Nina Dobrev.

The bashing got so ugly that Ian Somerhalder had to step up and take to Instagram to defend his girlfriend.

"You HATE NIKKI REED? Really? Do you know her? Hmmmm, I'm not sure that you do. Look on her Instagram feed or twitter and all you will see is a compassionate and beautiful human being. Please put your negative energy elsewhere. You don't even know the person you're talking about," he wrote.
