Miguel Cotto's next fight, which may likely be against Canelo Alvarez, would be a success, according to Oscar De La Hoya. "The Golden Boy" has predicted that the would-be match-up would make two million pay-per-view buys.

Miguel Cotto's next fight has not been set, but the fighter himself has opted to sit out the rest of the year and make a return in 2015. His return will also be in time for the end of the "cold war" between De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions and Bob Arum's Top Rank Promotions.

In an interview with USA Today, De La Hoya expressed that a match-up between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez would be the best fight to make as of the moment, considering the instability of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout negotiations.

"Like every fan out there, I'm waiting patiently," De La Hoya said about the possibility of Miguel Cotto's next fight against Alvarez. "But my patience is starting to run out and now I'm smiling over Cotto-Canelo, which I know can fill that void."

Both Alvarez and Cotto are coming off impressive victories in their last fights. The former finished off Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez in a 10th round stoppage to bag the WBC and Ring Magazine middleweight titles in June, while the latter decisively defeated Erislandy Lara via split decision a month after.

De La Hoya also noted that once the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez fight materializes, it is highly possible for it to make two million buys. "The Golden Boy" pointed out the star power that both men have, along with their high caliber skillset.

"When Cotto-Canelo gets made, I see no reason why it can't come close to the two million mark in pay-per-view buys," De La Hoya claimed. "Yes, you have to give credit to Miguel Cotto, he's a great fighter. But you bring in the Canelo factor and it brings pay-per-view fights to a whole new level."
