Canadian mixed martial artist Rory MacDonald is currently signed with the UFC fighting in the Welterweight division. His last fight against Tarec Saffiedine where he won via technical knockout at the UFC Fight Night Halifax shows that he wants his next fight to be for the 170-pound title.
For MacDonald, there is no other MMA fighter out there that is much deserving of the title belt. He said "Yeah, I really don't see anyone else [getting the title shot]. I beat some really good guys this year and I think beating a guy like Tarec - I said in many interviews that he's one of the best in the world in the welterweight division. I feel like I had a good fight against him tonight. Hopefully the UFC takes notice and puts in for that title shot so I can bring it back here to Canada."
The currently welterweight champion for UFC, Johny Hendricks is still booked to defend his belt against Robbie Lawler at UFC 181 this December, which is a rematch of their UFC 171 fight from last March.
MacDonald would want to face whoever wins between both fighters. When asked who he would choose to fight against either of them he said that it does not matter as long as he fights whoever wins.
He said "I just want to fight the best man, so whoever. They're both really good guys. They had a really close fight in the last one and Johny pulled it out there in the last minute of the last round, so who knows who's going to bring it."
MacDonald currently has 20 mixed martial arts record. He has 18 wins in which 7 of them were knockouts, six by submissions and five were decisions. He has 2 losses; 1 by knockout while the other is by decision. He is also a former King of the Cage Lightweight Champion.
But for now, MacDonald can now relax and watch as the game unfolds between both fighters saying "I just hope they're going to put up a good fight again and may the best man win."
As of June 29, 2014, he is the #2 contender in official UFC Welterweight rankingsand ranked the #3 welterweight in the world by Sherdog.
