Rory MacDonald's next fight should be a title shot, for the fans' sake, according to "Ares'" camp. The welterweight contender has also sent a strong message to Dana White through Twitter regarding the same issue.
While Rory MacDonald's next fight is still uncertain as of the moment, coach Firas Zahabi believes that the fans want a title shot for "Ares", especially since he has began ending his fights via stoppage once again.
"People want to pay for what they want to see, and I understand that," Zahabi said in a report by MMA Fighting. "It's fair. I think now people want to see Rory."
MacDonald finished former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine via third round TKO on Saturday night at UFC Fight Night in Halifax, Nova Scotia, earning him a Performance of the Night award. And for Zahabi, "Ares'" manner of finishing his foe was the kind opened the audience's eyes about what kind of fighter he really is.
"He finished with an incredible left hook that I think would've knocked out an elephant if it'd hit an elephant," Zahabi continued. "I think people believe now that it would be an exciting match against whoever's champion in the spring."
Zahabi also believes that Rory MacDonald's next fight should be against the winner of the upcoming title bout between champion Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, just because no one else is worthy of being next in line.
"How many more fights are on the table?" Zahabi added. "If you look at the top-10, who else would be eligible? Everybody's pretty much booked or [MacDonald] has beat. I don't see who's really out there who makes sense. I think the only thing that makes sense now is the winner of Hendricks and Lawler. I can't think of anybody else."
Meanwhile, Rory MacDonald himself sent a personal message to UFC president Dana White through Twitter, bearing this image.
