An "X-Men" TV show appears to be in the works as persistent rumors claimed that Fox is in "deep development for the superhero series.
E! News confirmed the rumors regarding the "X-Men" TV show after talking to several sources close to the deal.
"20th Century Fox studio and Fox network aren't commenting, but insiders with knowledge of the negotiations tell us that the project has been in quiet development for quite some time. There is currently no deal in place, however, we are told that the 'X-Men' series would be picked up by Fox and Fox only, if it goes," the article noted.
The 20th Century Fox owns the film rights to all Marvel's X-Men characters for about a decade now. The movie franchise, led by Hugh Jackman, Sir Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, already released seven films so far. The franchise itself is listed 12th all time about grossing $3 billion worldwide.
If Fox will pick up the "X-Men" TV show, it will join other characters from Marvel and DC in the boob tube include "The Flash," "Gotham," "Agents of Shield," "Constantine." Also in the pipeline are "Supergirl" and "Agent Carter."
Rachel Paxton-Gillilan of IGN said rumors about 20th Century Fox looking to bring the Marvel Franchise to the small screen has been going on since March.
"At the time, 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' writer/producer Simon Kinberg noted that 'the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV,'" she wrote.
She also revealed that Shawn Madden of eatgeekplay.com has heard that the "X-Men" TV show is rumored to be based on "X-Factor" by Peter David. He tweeted: "The X-Factor series will definitely feature Jamie Madrox and be sort of like 'Fringe in the X-Men world.'"
But Gillilan warned fans to temper the enthusiasm because none of the rumors surrounding the "X-Men" TV show have been confirmed by Fox.
