It looks like big changes are happening for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man as Sony has dropped a bombshell regarding the Amazing Spider-Man movie franchise.

According to reports from Badass Digest, Sony and Marvel are in talks of whether Spider-Man will crossover in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the website hint that the wall-crawler will join the ranks of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and among others in Avengers 3.

Hitflix further reports that speculation of Spider-Man appearing with the Avengers in the third movie will likely happen.

"While I can't get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I'm hearing that there are some very cool "Spider-Man" plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important frnachise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom's minds. Will it work out? I don't know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it's happening. What seems clear from what I've heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again."

Spidey wasn't the only one rumored to crossover in MCU. It was reported before that Hugh Jackman wanted his character Wolverine to appear with the Avengers. Could Marvel Studios actually pull Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? A question that is hard to answer given the time and negotiations that Sony and Marvel can discuss regarding the licensed rights of the character, not to mention 20th Century Fox's rights in the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters.

That's not all, the website also reported that the Venom Carnage spin-off has been cancelled and Sinister Six movie will likely have a new actor playing Peter Parker in the movie as a small plot detail hint that Spidey will likely team-up with the villains in order to take down a much dangerous foe. You could say its an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" kind of truce.

So what's going happen to Venom and Carnage in the Spidey movies? According to reports from Enstarz, that Venom and Carnage might be the main villains in the Amazing Spider-Man 3. It's already been rumored that plot of Amazing Spidey 3 will be based on the Clone Saga storyline.

Only time can tell whether Sony hands over Spider-Man back in Marvel Studios, and have him join the Avengers in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
