It's been five years since the klutzy but endearing book character Bridget Jones has appeared on screen (as portrayed by Renee Zellweger) and endeared herself to anyone who has experienced heartbreak and falling in love. It's been a five year's wait for fans too, for the Bridget Jones diary 3. Who doesn't want to see their favorite British woman make a complete mess on screen, and still manage to have everyone fall in love with her?
But instead of good news, there's a bit of snag for those dreaming of finally getting to see the third installment of the popular novel by Helen Fielding. It seems that Hugh Grant, one of Bridget's love interests has decided that he will not be appearing on Bridget Jones 3. Many fans are sure to be disappointed that the devilishly handsome rascal Daniel Cleaver will not be essayed by the British actor.
"I decided not to do it," the British actor said in an interview with Free Radio. "But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different-well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago."
If the movie will still indeed be greenlighted, it will be based on author Helen Fielding's third installment of the Bridget Jones diary franchise, "Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy." The book has a very promising story, and very well received by critics. In fact, the Bridget Jones 3 book got a positively glowing recommendation from The New York Times. An excerpt from the review reads "[Bridget] is funnier and more interesting than she was before. Who knew middle age could be so eventful?"
So what exactly happens in this Bridge Jones 3 story? Unfortunately for us, Mark Darcy, Bridget's husband (who was played by Colin Firth in the movie) is killed in a land mine accident in Sudan, leaving Bridget with two children to take care of.
While it's not clear yet whether the script for the movie adaptation is faithful to the book, what is for sure is that the Daniel Cleaver characters is very much alive and is in fact the godfather to Bridget's children. But too bad Hugh Grant has said no to Bridget Jones 3. For more updates on this movie, stay tuned here!
