The New York Comic-Con brings with it, its own share of premieres, trailer unveilings, surprise appearances and big reveals for upcoming TV shows and movies, and it wasn't a surprise that Netflix chose to unveil their upcoming new series here. The Daredevil Netflix production was one of the most buzzed about panels in the Comic-Con, and fans were given a glimpse of what the treatment would be like.
Unlike the Ben Affleck version that was screened in 2003, this is a darker, more sinister tone. It is clearly running along the veins of the Daredevil that was envisioned by Frank Miller and John Romita Jr. in Daredevil: Man Without Fear. And because Daredevil Netflix will be a series, as opposed to a movie, there are clearly more things that can be done with the material -- with darker depth and detail.
Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) will be playing Att. Matt Murdock, who lost his sight when he was younger. As a result of the accident that left him blind, all of his other senses have been heightened to above normal levels. From the photo released for the series, we see that Daredevil Netflix will not be wearing the red leathery suit that Affleck wore for the big screen version. Instead his costume is darker and more sinister looking.
The series will reportedly run with 13 episodes next year, and it will be showing in tandem with three other series based on the Marvel Universe' cast of characters -- Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. The three shows are collectively going to merge into a miniseries called The Defenders.
Aside from Charlie Cox playing the lead in Daredevil Nextflix version, Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) will be playing Karen Page (the secretary of the law firm where Murdock works, while Elden Henson (The Hunger Games) will portray the role of Matt's friend and law firm partner Fogg Nelson. Meanwhile, the villain Wilson Fix will be played by Vincent D'Onofrio, while Rosario Dawson is playing Claire Temple, who might be Night Nurse.
