Queen Elizabeth II appointed Hollywood star Angelina Jolie as an Honorary Dame!

The 39-year-old actress is the first American to be named as Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George for her valiant campaign to end sexual violence in areas of conflict, CNN reported.

Aside from being appointed as a UN High Commissioner for Refugees, she also worked with former British Foreign Secretary William Hague to create the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative.

Her Majesty presented the 'Maleficent' star with the female equivalent of knighthood inside Buckingham Palace's 1844 Room as the actress' husband, Brad Pitt and their six children - Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne - looked on with pride.

According to USA Today, the children were also very excited to be inside the Palace.

The family flew to London from Malta where the newlyweds were shooting for their comeback movie together, 'By The Sea.'
