The actress said: "I don't know, something in me was like 'you have to do this. You're going to love this experience more than anything.'"

Among the awaited issues people hope will be tackled by the Aaliyah biopic by Lifetime is her rumored relationship with R&B superstar R Kelly, who was much older than the late songstress.

Alexandra Shipp defended the alleged romance between the two. "R Kelly was Aaliyah's first love. She married him," she said, reported by Madamenoire.

"She had to have loved him because Aaliyah don't play. She never does, so she went hard for that love," Alexandra Shipp added.

The singer-actress also pointed out that she sang all of the songs in the Aaliyah biopic by Lifetime. "I sang in the movie. I sing all of songs in the movie," she said, adding that she believes she was able to "deliver".
