Previously, the film adaptation "Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes" was announced in the works. However, the latest update is that instead of a movie, "Mortal Instruments" will now have a TV series adaptation!

As per LA Times, due to the disappointing box-office performance of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," the film adaptation of the first novel in Clare's bestselling six-book series is being rebooted as a television show. The German production company, Constantin Film, has announced this news last October 13.

The first installment "City of Bones" was released in movie theaters on August 2013. The main star is Lily Collins. She played the role of a teenager who discovers she is part of a clan of demon chasers. The first installment got a "12% fresh" rating from Rotten Tomatoes. It was reported grossed only $31 million at the domestic box office, while overseas it grossed $59 million.

Constantin Film has assured that the franchise would continue. Constantin film and TV head Martin Moszkowicz told Hollywood Reporter:

"It actually makes sense to do [the novels] as a TV series. There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the 'Mortal Instruments' film. In the series we'll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth."

Meanwhile, Variety reported that "Resident Evil" will be adapted into TV series in the hands of Constantin Film, as well.

As of the moment, the production team is not confirming the cast on the reboot version of "Mortal Instruments.
