When "Despicable Me 2" was released in 2013, many fans kept asking if there will be "Despicable Me 3". The sequel to the 2010 animation was a huge success and it actually earned $970 million in the box office. With a budget of only $76 million, then that definitely is a sure win for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Studios.

Because of its massive earnings, the producers decided to bring back Gru and the minions. I'm sure that got many of you excited. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios announced their calendar of animated films for the coming years.

Listed in the calendar is "Despicable Me 3", which has a release date of June 30, 2017. That still is around three years away so some of you may get impatient waiting for it. Don't worry because you could be seeing the adorable minions earlier.

According to Hallels, "We have reports saying that on-going works for the spin-off film animated series called Minions is currently in production." It will be released on July 10, 2015 and will feature John Hamm (Herb Overkill) and Sandra Bullock (Scarlet Overkill) as the villain couple who wanted to rule the world.

If you're a huge fan of Gru's yellow assistants, then you will definitely enjoy the "Minions" movie. The prequel will be directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. A teaser of the 3D computer-animated film was shown during the post-credits of "Despicable Me 2". Watch the after-credits scene that featured a teaser to the "Minions" movie below:

Since the producers already confirmed "Despicable Me 3", could this also mean that Steve Carell will return as Gru? The 52-year old actor would most probably return for the sequel because he enjoys voicing Gru. Carell expressed how excited he was with "Despicable Me 2" during an interview with the Collider.

The comedian said, "I love it. I think the movie itself is an evolution. It's a natural extension of the first movie, which I thought was smart." He continued, "The characters changed and grew, no pun intended, but at the same time the sense of the movie feels familiar. The tone of it is the same as the first one, but the family is different."

Carell explained further, "That dynamic is different, and he's no longer officially a villain. And not to make too fine a point on it, because you don't want to over analyze the movie, but there are certain things that struck me about the story."

Do you think Steve Carell will voice Gru again in "Despicable Me 3"?
